Apple (AAPL) leading the averages higher on data their new phone, the iPhone 17, has seen strong demand with sales 14% better than last year’s iPhone16. Sales in China have also been strong with solid adoption as many investors feared the Chinese would move away from the iPhone. Evercore ISI upgraded Apple’s stock with a $315 price target.

Rare earth stocks still in play. Cleveland Cliffs (CLF) a steel and iron ore company, reported a loss for the quarter as sales rose 3% to $4.74 billion. But the stock is up 20% as the company mentioned that at least two of their mines, in Michigan and in Minnesota have rare earth minerals. The company did not specify how much rare earths exist there, but investors are excited.
