What a difference a day makes.

After investors approached Election Day cautiously, Wall Street responded Wednesday with one of its strongest rallies of 2026.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average surged 1,569 points, or 3.03%, to 53,356.12, its best session since April 2025. The S&P 500 climbed 1.58% to 7,688.62, while the Nasdaq Composite gained 1.44% to 25,736.51. [cnbc.com], [finance.yahoo.com]

The rally followed a decisive midterm election in which Democrats won control of both chambers of Congress. Markets also appeared encouraged by Donald Trump’s acceptance of the results and stated willingness to work with Democrats, reducing fears of a prolonged post-election dispute. [cnbc.com]

Crude oil provided another boost. U.S. crude fell more than 8%, while Brent crude also dropped more than 8%, as investors reassessed the geopolitical outlook following the election. [cnbc.com]

💎 Diamond of the Day: The Dow Jones Industrial Average

Why force an individual company into today’s Diamond slot?

The Dow itself deserves it.

The venerable 30-stock index added more than 1,500 points, climbing back above 53,000 for the first time since early September and recording its best single-day performance since April 9, 2025. [cnbc.com]

Why It Shined

  • The Dow Jones Industrial Average gained 3.03%. [cnbc.com]
  • The index added 1,569.40 points to finish at 53,356.12. [cnbc.com]
  • It substantially outperformed both the S&P 500 and Nasdaq Composite. [cnbc.com]
  • Walmart gained about 3% and Bank of America approximately 4% as investors moved toward companies outside the AI infrastructure trade. [cnbc.com]
  • The rally coincided with reduced election uncertainty and plunging oil prices. [cnbc.com], [cnbc.com]

Importantly, historical market reactions following midterm elections do not tell us what will happen next. Today’s Diamond simply recognizes an extraordinary session for one of America’s oldest market benchmarks.

🐕 Dogs of the Day: The Data-Center Buildout

Here’s where Wednesday gets really interesting.

While the broader market soared, several stocks connected directly to AI data-center construction, power and infrastructure fell as investors evaluated whether the election results could lead to additional scrutiny, permitting challenges or limits on future development. [reuters.com]

Among the notable decliners:

What’s Behind the Concern?

The election changed the political backdrop for the AI infrastructure boom.

Democrats won important races in major data-center states, including Texas and Georgia. In Texas, incoming governor Gina Hinojosa campaigned for tougher limitations on new data centers, including an immediate moratorium. One cited estimate puts Texas at roughly 27% of planned U.S. data-center capacity, making policy there particularly relevant to the industry. [247wallst.com]
