We had a great ski season. Vail Resorts (MTN) rose 6% on earnings as lift ticket revenue rose 4.5% from the beginning of the season. Vail Resorts said that ski school revenue climbed 1.1%, while dining revenue was up 6.6%. These results included a weeklong strike that disrupted operations during the height of the season. For the remainder of the season, Vail Resorts is expecting improved performance compared to the season-to-date period, including a continued shift in destination visitation patterns to later in the ski season locations.
A few companies are lowering guidance. Delta Airlines (DAL) is down 5% as they see sluggish demand due in part to macroeconomic uncertainties, however, they do not see a recession. Verizon (V) is down 7% as they see soft subscriber growth due in part to strong competition and promotions provided by rivals. Oracle (ORCL) is down 4% after missing earnings estimates.
