A Big "W" For "W"

This week marked the presumed end of military operations in Iraq. For sure, there will still be over 50,000 of our courageous soldiers still stationed there as they transition to a new order but with much fanfare and deserving gratitude to the military, the seven year long war in Iraq is over. The attention will now go to Afghanistan as the surge moves across the continent. Investors took the news, like most news this year, with a shrug and refocused on jobs and even though the unemployment rate bounced up to 9.6% as of Friday, investors cheered and rallied stocks into the long weekend. After the worst August since 2001, it was nice to have a week with stocks solidly in the green. As president Obama pointed out, much more work needs to be done as the jobless, uninspired recovery moves forward.
