Diamonds and Dogs

The grocery retailers are bouncing back following news yesterday Amazon would lower Whole Foods prices. Dollar Tree (DLTR) is up 2% following an upgrade and better than expected earnings the other day. Dollar Tree also raised full year earnings above consensus and reaffirmed same store sales comps.

Ulta Beauty (ULTA) looks ultra-bad. The beauty cosmetics company is down 9% following earnings. The earnings were actually better than expected, but sales missed estimates. Comparable-store sales rose an impressive 12%, but missed expectations as well. Despite consumers' increasingly shifting shopping habits to online from bricks and mortar, Ulta CEO Mary Dillon said on an earnings call with analysts that she is confident in its ability to stay afloat. The stock is down 30% in the last three months.
