Central Garden and Pet Co. (CENT)

Central Garden and Pet Co. is crashing today, down 13.62% at $9.64. The pet, lawn and garden company saw its shares fall into the red after releasing their earnings report. Central Garden and Pet lost $10.1 million in the quarter ended Sept. 29, which is somewhat better than the loss of $10.9 million a year earlier. This quarter the company earned $21.2 million on sales of $1.7 billion, compared with earnings of $28.3 million on sales of $1.6 billion the previous year, which was a week shorter. Central Garden and Pet Co. is still well above its 52-week low of $7.60.

Greif Inc. (GEF)

Greif Inc. isn't giving its investors grief today, up 7.73% at $43.77. The industrial packaging product company saw its shares after it beat on its earnings report. Greif reported net income of $26.5 million, or $0.45 per share, for its fiscal fourth quarter ended Oct. 31. That was up from earnings of $20.8 million, or $0.36 per share a year ago. CEO David Fischer said that relatively stable economic conditions in North America last quarter helped to partly offset weak performance, especially in Europe, for its flexible products and rigid industrial packaging segments. Greif climbed up into the middle of its 52-week range today.
