The major averages finished in the green with a rebound in financials by Goldman Sachs and big cap techs following strong earnings and guidance from Taiwan Semiconductor.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average added 292 points, or 0.60% to 49,442 led by Goldman Sachs and Nvidia. The S&P 500 rose 17 points or 0.26% while the Nasdaq Composite

 advanced 58 points to 23,530.

Two earnings reports from Goldman Sachs and Taiwan Semi led the rally in the financials and tech. . Goldman Sachs advanced more than 4% after its fourth-quarter profit topped Wall Street estimates. Morgan Stanley jumped nearly 6% after its wealth management unit contributed to top and bottom line beats in the fourth quarter. Both stocks touched fresh 52-week highs. Chip plays led the market after Taiwan Semiconductor

 delivered another record quarter, saying it expects to boost capital spending in 2026 to between $52 billion and $56 billion. Nvidia added 2%.

After a strong start to the year, Brent crude oil slid more than 4% as it looks like Trump with hold off on military action in Iran. Reports indicate neither Isreal nor Saudi Arabia wanted regime change in Iran, at least in the short term. Gold was modestly lower while Silver was up a percent. Crypto currencies pulled back due to a snag on crypto regulation in Congress.

Interest rates were higher after the latest jobless claims data pointed to an improving labor market. Jobless claims data for the week ending Jan. 10 came in at 198,000, lower than the 215,000 expected by economists polled by Dow Jones. The 10-year Treasury yield rose a basis point to 4.15%. The yield on the 2-year Treasury advanced 4 basis points to 3.55%. The 30-year Treasury yield was down a basis point to 4.78%.
