The major averages closed mixed as the S&P 500 and Nasdaq marched to new highs with the S&P 500 closing above 6300 for the first time as corporate earnings keep coming in better than expected. The Dow Jones fell 19 points or 0.04%. The S&P 500 rose 8 points to 6305 while the Nasdaq rose 78 points or 0.38%.

Another big week for earnings. Verizon rose 4% on better than expected earnings and guidance. Of the 62 S&P 500 companies that have reported thus far, more than 85% have topped expectations, according to FactSet data.

No economic data to digest today, but interest rates did pull back. The 10-year Treasury yield fell 4 basis points to 4.38%. The 2-year yield declined a basis point to 3.86%. The 30-year yield fell 4 basis points to 4.95%.

Oil was steady as the EU sets new sanctions on Russia. Gold was up a percent today while bitcoin fell a percent.
