Wall Street was trading higher Wednesday as technology stocks rebounded and investors continued digesting a busy week of corporate earnings.

Around midday, the Nasdaq Composite was up approximately 1.1%, the S&P 500 about 0.5%, and the Dow Jones Industrial Average roughly 0.3%. Technology was among the session’s stronger sectors, while communications and healthcare were weaker. [nexqual.com]

Earnings remained front and center, with Tesla and Meta Platforms scheduled to report after Wednesday’s closing bell. [finance.yahoo.com]

Yet one of today’s more interesting winners came from healthcare technology.

💎 Diamond of the Day: Illumina (ILMN)

Illumina earns today’s Diamond after its shares climbed approximately 5.5% to 6% by midday, trading near $283. [beststocks.com], [zacks.com]

The company specializes in genomic sequencing and related technologies used by researchers and clinicians, including in oncology.

Wednesday’s move came as Illumina announced an expansion of its BioInsight Platform, with new software intended to accelerate the path from sequencing data to research discoveries. The company had initially launched the unified software environment on October 14. [illumina.com]

Why It Shined

  • Illumina shares were approximately 5.5% to 6% higher around midday. [beststocks.com], [zacks.com]
  • The company announced new software capabilities for its BioInsight Platform Wednesday. [illumina.com]
  • Illumina has also announced several cancer- and oncology-related collaborations and research initiatives during 2026, including work involving precision oncology and pediatric cancer. [illumina.com]

The potential applications of genomic technologies in cancer detection and research are exciting, but for our FINRA/SEC-conscious version, I would avoid suggesting that Illumina has demonstrated that its technology can broadly prevent cancer or guarantee improved outcomes.

Today’s Diamond recognizes the company’s market performance and publicly announced technology developments, not a prediction about clinical or investment results.

🐕 Dogs of the Day: AT&T (T) & Verizon Communications (VZ)

America’s large wireless carriers are back in the doghouse.

AT&T shares were down approximately 5% around midmorning, while Verizon Communications was off roughly 3%. T-Mobile US was also down about 3%, showing that Wednesday’s pressure extended across the major wireless companies. [247wallst.com]

The AT&T move was particularly interesting because its third-quarter results included some favorable numbers.

The company reported adjusted earnings of $0.65 per share versus a cited $0.60 consensus estimate, revenue increased 5.3% to $32.3 billion, and AT&T increased its 2026 adjusted EPS outlook to roughly $2.40. [finance.yahoo.com]

Yet investors continued grappling with another question: What could SpaceX and Starlink Mobile eventually mean for the traditional wireless business?

SpaceX recently agreed to acquire a nationwide low-band spectrum portfolio, subject to regulatory approval. Wednesday’s published market coverage again connected weakness in AT&T, Verizon Communications and T-Mobile US with investor concern surrounding SpaceX’s wireless ambitions. Why They Barked

  • AT&T was down approximately 5% in midmorning trading. [247wallst.com]
  • Verizon Communications was approximately 3% lower. [247wallst.com]
  • AT&T nevertheless reported better-than-expected adjusted EPS and raised its full-year adjusted earnings outlook. [finance.yahoo.com]
  • Investors continued evaluating potential future competition following SpaceX’s agreement to acquire nationwide low-band spectrum. That transaction remains subject to FCC approval and closing conditions. [blog.kcex.com]
